Fig - Flood Simulation conducting is under progress

In the collaboration with Township Government Counterpart and Fire Brigade Department, LWF Myanmar had organized the simulation about flood at Sakan Maw village on November 23, 2017. The activity is done under the purposes of strengthening awareness on DRR preparedness for prompt response to flood fresh disaster and building capacities of Emergency Response Team – CBDRM Sub-Committee.

Sakan Maw village is one of the most flood prone areas in LWF Myanmar’s target area. Sakanmaw village had faced frequent flood due to its locating around to the side of Ann stream and nearby hilly mountains. An extremely heavy rain combined with higher sea tide level has been considered as the single important cause for frequent occurrence of flood.

The exercise had been designed with three level of actions;
Level (1) - stand for Alert, Standby and ready, which strengthened the roles and responsibilities of each respective sub-committee.

Level (2) - stand for more preparation measures, which are focused to preparedness actions before evacuation process.
Level (3) is to make right decision and the respective sub-committees were evacuated such kind of the most vulnerable people, which were pregnant women, children, age people and most vulnerable people with poor infrastructure in the worst-case scenario.

As the part of Township Disaster Management Committee, General Administrative Department and Township Fire Brigade were actively involved throughout simulation. The Fire Brigade led search and secure session for those who were seriously affected in this chaos flooding. This coordination enhanced good relationships and effective linkages among township authorities, LWF and community.

Township Officer of GAD says, it's the first experience for Ann Township and highly appreciated to those who active participated in the event. And he requested to the community to maintain this practice and stay to be ready in future.
